October is national Physical Therapy month; Wendell Schools would like to thank Lon Egbert at Wendell Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine for all he does. Lon started volunteering his time at football games in 2003. Since then he has helped Wendell write their concussion protocol, provide concussion training for Wendell and surrounding schools, donate his time and resources to administer baseline tests, run a summer quickness and agility camp and provide training for coaches. Lon does all this at no charge to the school.
Wendell is very lucky to have Lon, and his experience. Lon has been involved at the Olympic level helping world class athletes at the Salt Lake winter games, and being a sports medicine trainer at the Olympic training center for track and field. Lon was also the Idaho State Athletic Trainer of the year in 2013.
Some of Lon’s best memories: being on the sidelines for the state championship in football for the 2003 season, being asked to be grand marshal of the homecoming parade, helping with the 2003-04 state champion basketball team, helping Texas place third in the state wrestling tournament, and helping with rec wrestling since 2006.
